Life after death

The death of Scottish football is inevitable, or so the MSM media would have us believe, the newspaper columns, radio and television shows paint a picture of a footballing wilderness should Glasgow Rangers or more accurately the offspring or newco as they have been coined fail to gain a place somewhere in Scotlands football league structure. This conjures up images of football fans, scarves hanging limply from hands wandering the streets on Saturday afternoons with glazed expressions asking passers by “what happened to our game, did you see who stole the baw?”

Well I for one refuse to believe the spin. Never before in my lifetime can I remember a time when football fans have been more united in their views. This show of unity is a direct response to the nonsense being spouted by the very people tasked with promoting and safeguarding our national obsession. Posters on blogs, callers to radio phone ins, letters to papers all say the same thing;

Apply the rules without fear or favour. Punish those proven to have dome wrong. Listen to the clubs who are telling you what you are trying to do to our game is wrong.

A great example of this new found unity between fans of all teams are the group of Aberdeen fans who are going to sponsor a Raith Rovers player for the upcoming season. Raith have taken the step of publishing a letter of thanks so overwhelmed have they been with fans contacting them praising them for the stance they have taken.

I believe what we are witnessing is not the death of our game but it’s rebirth. This will have happened thanks to the actions of the fans and of honest men in charge of clubs who stand up for Integrity and fairness. Not due to the behaviour of those tasked with managing our major associations, yes you Doncaster and Regan who should be sent homewards to think again.

    Great statement from Raith,proof that football fans will unite to acheive a common goal.
    Raith Rovers would like to take the opportunity to thank fans, both of the club and other teams across Scotland, who’ve taken the time to contact us regarding the recent developments within Scottish Football.
    Whilst we may not have had time to respond to every message, they are all being read by the Directors. We’ve also been monitoring Facebook, Twitter and other social media.
    The response has been overwhelming, and unexpected.
    A few Aberdeen fans have grouped together to sponsor players for next season. One group, Aberdeen Fans For Sporting Integrity, are sponsoring Roary Rover and will donate the shirt to a local charity at the end of the season. They’ve already raised so much money that they are supporting other clubs in a similar way.
    In addition, Raith fans have been using the SUPPORT ROVERS bank account to donate towards the running of the club. These funds will help pay the club’s expenses for the trip to Wick at the end of the month. This account was set up last year and initially the amount was quite modest, but in the last few days the flow of donations has increased. On Thursday the club received a £335 cheque from the account, making a total of £563. Many thanks to all who are contributing and keep up the good work.

    If you would like to donate to this account the details are – SUPPORT ROVERS: Sort Code – 80-16-84, Account Number – 06025487.

    Raith Rovers Supporters Club have also provisionally booked a bus for the away trip to Wick Academy.

    The bus will leave from Dalgety Bay Railway Halt at 7:00am, Burntisland (Kirkton) 7:10am, Kinghorn (Myers Park) 7:15am, Novar Bar 7:20am, Mormon Church 7:27am, Templehall (Buccaneer) and Pinkertons in Glenrothes at 7:45am.

    The bus can only run if they get sufficient pasengers. The price is £20 for members and £23 for non members. Bookings can be made by contacting 07888747883 (text preferred) with name and pick up point. Bus bookings and payments can also be made at the Ross County friendly 10th July, Laurie Ellis testimonial 14th July, Motherwell friendly 17th July and finally the Dundee United friendly on the 21st
